Again the Art / Technology Evening proved a great success. The quality of work within all areas of the Technology and the Art being complimented. We were fortunate to have excellent weather for the evening, the only problem being that people seemed somewhat reluctant to go home!!
Following the success of this year's W.J.E.C. Student Innovation Awards, where six Pantycelyn pupils had their work displayed, again pupils have had their work nominated for next year's awards.
Many Pantycelyn pupils reached the very highest standards in the recent Urdd Eisteddfod, and within Technology Dylan Morgan was awarded first prize Nationally in one category within the Arts and Crafts and Delyth Pugh was awarded first prize for C.A.D. work within the County.
Miss Ann Jenkins was delighted at the success of Year 10 Catering students with their recent work experience, and Miss Jenkins is delighted with the new industrial style kitchen fitted in T4. The numbers of pupils encouraged into this area is growing yet further.
Pupils within Textiles Technology continue to have success with their G.C.S.E. work and have benefited greatly from the after school club which Miss Games offers.
Several trips have been organised by the Technology Department in recent months, and one of these trips was to an Engineering Team challenge in Trinity College, Carmarthen, where Year 9 Pantycelyn pupils managed first, second and third prizes (Stuart Rees 1st, Jack Stanton 2nd, Rhys Bevan 3rd).
The department was delighted with the results at all Key Stages, a summary of these being as follows:
KS3: Level 5+ within technology nationally is 73% and Level 5+ within technology in Pantycelyn is 88% i.e. 15% above the national average.
KS4: Across all areas of technology (food, textiles and RMT) 81.4% of pupils achieved C grade or above.
In the art/ textiles area all pupils achieved C grade or above, compared to 74.3% Welsh average, and 47.1% of pupils
In food technology 92% of pupils achieved C grade or above compared to 78.5% Welsh average, and 46.2% achieved A*.
In RMT 76.7% of pupils achieved C grade or above compared to 59.9% for Wales, and 20% of pupils achieved A*.
In catering all pupils achieved C grade or above compared to 82.2% for Wales.
AS level technology were well above the Welsh average of 55% C grade or above, all students achieving C grade or above, and 60% of pupils achieved full U.S.M. marks in the DT2 module.
A level: Significant ‘Value added' was achieved with a mixed group of Year 13 students.
