It’s been a very successful year for the Science Department. We had an excellent inspection report. Thank you everyone.
At KS3 National Test (SATS), 89% obtained L5 and above. National Tests will continue in 2006. After that a new system will operate with externally moderated teacher assessment for 2007. As part of that we will need to extend our already close relationships with partner primary schools to produce a portfolio of standard work.
At GCSE Double Award almost 100% gained grades A* to C. There was also a very good performance at Entry Level. In 2006 we will begin teaching a new Science GCSE. This is radically different from anything that has gone before. It has implication for the teaching and the timetable. We hope to learn more this term ready for September 2006.
Science Staff:
The ‘A' Level results were excellent, particularly in Physics.
GCSE results were also very good with 82.8% of pupils achieving grades A*-C.
A number of visits have taken place during the year:
Best wishes to Mr Iolo Griffiths as he leads the Science department. We would like to welcome Miss Rachael Dilcock to the Department. She is a part time teacher of Science in Years 7 and 8, as well as supporting Biology at A Level. Congratulations to Miss Emma Taylor who is now in charge of Biology. Sadly we said goodbye to Mr Malcolm Jones at the end of the Summer Term. We wish him a happy retirement, after many years of service to the school.
