An introduction to ICT in our school

ICT continues to develop and grow in terms of curriculum, student and teacher demands and expectations.

The school has made bold steps to keep pace with these demands in a program of investment to provide more computers, upgrading existing equipment and developing new systems for school networking and electronic administration.

Key to these developments has been the investment in an RM CC3 Network which provides a stable and highly functional platform to manage all computer users and resources in the school.

In addition the school has invested in the Lisol Pathways software to improve efficiency in registration and pupil data systems.

ICT at Pantycelyn is well supported by the headmaster and governing body and the school is fortunate to have a modern network with high performance servers and 150 network stations.

The ICT Suite

The main ICT Suite has 31 computers in a recently modified room. New, dedicated furniture throughout, carpetted floor, interactive whiteboard and colour laser printer.

The suite is used extensively and in great demand by all departments on a booking system.

Datblygiadau

Erbyn hyn, mae prif ystafell TGCh bron yn 5 mlwydd oed a gweithredir rhaglen o ddiweddaru'r peiriannau yn eu tro, gyda rhyw draean wedi eu disodli hyd yn hyn. Gobeithiwn adnewyddu'r gweddill eleni. Golyga'r gwelliannau hyn ein bod yn diweddaru'r t?r yn unig gan y gellir defnyddio'r monitor o hyd. Gobeithiwn ddiweddaru o sgriniau CRT  i rai TFT yn y dyfodol agos. Byddai hyn yn esmwythach i'r defnyddiwr ac yn cwtogi allgyrchiant gwres.

Gall fod yn rhy dwym ac yn afiach yn yr ystafelloedd TGCh - H3 a T2 - i'r disgyblion a'r offer. Dylid rhoi system awyru yn y ddwy ystafell. Amcangyfrifir mai cost hyn fydd fan lleiaf £1500 yr ystafell.

Whiteboard Picture

Interactive Whiteboards : The school is actively developing this technology and now has 7 Promethean systems with a further 12 class rooms having data projectors.

Data Projectors

Each year aditional departments and rooms become equipped with data projectors to enhance the learning experience.

Most of these are ceiling mounted to facilitate easy access during lessons.

CNC MACHINES

The school actively pursues opportunities to develop CAD CAM skills.

The Technology department have a number of machines which are regularly used by students in each year group. These range from vinyl cutters to CNC lathes and milling machines and computer controlled sewing machines.

Many of these being purchased following a successful bid for grant funding.

The web designers team is held every Tuesday unless told otherwise by head of team Mrs Jeanette Jones.  The team will let you improve the schools website  www.pantycelyn.org .  The team teaches you new skills and is helped by Graeme(Smurf) and Iori (Little Drummer Boy).

Governors' Report to Parents

Key Stage 3

The provision of dedicated lessons at Key stage 3, 1 hour per week for each pupil, has proved to be very successful. Students have sat their first ICT Key Stage 3 examinations this year. We look to build on this foundation next year and develop further the range of experiences and skills developed.

Examinations

At GCSE examination results showed a marked improvement on those from previous years as student focus and course delivery improves. The department aims to raise the GCSE pass level for all future students from previous levels to those more commensurate with pupils from Pantycelyn.

The first cohort of students have sat GCE examinations and whilst all achieved pass grades. These grades will improve with greater focus and application from students in this practically based subject.
