You are nowhere without Geography

Yet again our pupils achieved excellent results in the external exams. The six students in Year 13 all achieved "A" to "C" grades with 3 "A"s. Year 12 excelled themselves with 7 "A" grades from 10 pupils. Unfortunately, only 6 of these are taking the subject on to A2 level. However there is every likelihood that they will achieve good grades next summer.

The GCSE group also did very well with 84.8% obtaining "A*" to "C" grades. This is a reflection of the effort put in by the students themselves and the staff of the Department. I would like to thank Mrs. Jones and Mr Mainwaring for their hard work and support this year again.

Fieldwork continues throughout the school. An automatic weather tracker and a flowmeter has helped to produce more reliable data for "A" level  projects while equipment is also available for lending to GCSE students to carry out river studies for their projects.

Mrs Jones and Mr Mainwaring have carried out local fieldwork with the lower school pupils and also arranged two fieldtrips to the Elan Valley with Years 7 and 8. They investigated water resources. Mr Mainwaring is also in the process of arranging an exciting fieldtrip to Sorrento in Italy this coming summer. The highlight will be a visit to Mount Vesuvius.

Mrs Jones continues to work hard on the school's web site which she keeps up to date with the help of a group of faithful website developers, she is also involved annually in the production of the highly acclaimed Calendar with the Friends of the School, and is responsible for publicity.
