English

The English Department continues to achieve consistently high results at all levels. 70% gained A-C in GCSE Language and 73% in Literature. All candidates passed A Level Literature with a good crop of high grades. Especially pleasing was the success of the new English Language A Level course, where all students achieved high grades. This course provides an opportunity for our students to explore fascinating aspects of the language. The Department now provides these two full A Level courses.

IT provision continues to improve and the Department has continued to place an increasing emphasis on presentations and PowerPoint, helping students develop confidence in the all-important Communication area of Key Skills.

The Department has made investments in new schemes of work to develop Literacy and to help us explore a wider range of texts. We continue to benefit from a wide range of expertise and enthusiasm in the Department’s staffing and we look forward to a year of continuing challenge and innovation.

Book Fair

Thanks to all those pupils who supported the Scholastic Book Fair by purchasing books, earning commission for the school in the form of books for the library. A big thank you to those staff and pupils, who gave up their time to organise and run it. The selection of books has improved considerably in recent years. We hope the pupils enjoyed browsing through the selection.

The Department continues to run both Language and Literature at A Level thanks to support from SMT. Also, thanks are due to them and the rest of the Department for all their work and support during my absence Mr Evans' recent absence.
